Course Description

An effective energy audit needs to examine major energy end-use equipment, operations, maintenance, and management processes of the facility.  It is a detailed examination of how the facility uses energy, the cost of energy, and it provides a set of recommendations to reduce the energy costs by both equipment and operational changes. Individuals involved in an audit, whether they are conducting the audit or commissioning the audit, need to understand the processes required to achieve the desired goal.

This program will help improve an energy auditor's methods, and also educate and inform end-users of what they should expect of an audit in terms of activities and deliverables. It helps identify auditing pitfalls and ensures an audit is a holistic action plan for building management, rather than just paperwork or academic exercise, or sales tool to recommend a specific product upgrade or project expenditure.

This is a non-certification course.

Who Should Attend

The program is of greatest value to those undertaking or assessing energy auditing projects. Attendees of this program have included professionals from energy service and engineering firms involved in government, utility, institutional and municipal sectors, including existing energy professionals, service providers, energy engineers, energy managers, facilities managers, end-users and energy consultants.

Online Training Experience

Attending this program is an ideal opportunity to participate in a focused, fast-paced instructional program, designed to expand your knowledge of energy auditing. The program is presented in short 2-hour sessions over the course of three days to allow professionals to attend while still maintaining their current work schedule.

Attendees can participate in this online program from anywhere you have access to a high-speed internet connection or access via smartphone/tablet.

What You Will Learn

The instructor provides an overview of the new ASHRAE Energy Audit - Standard 211 (an update to the ASHRAE Guideline), recently adopted and reference by many localities in their energy audit regulations. The program then proceeds through the four major stages of the audit process, beginning with the pre-audit work that needs to be done to make the best use of the auditor's field time. Then providing a review of all components of the site visit phase of the audit: covering who should be involved, data gathering and forensic detective techniques, and survey/monitoring tools. From there, analysis of the data and potential savings opportunities will be discussed, covering both energy and economic considerations. The instructor emphasizes the proper application of applicable energy rates and the available auditing software tools. Finally, and importantly, the contents and organizational issues necessary for the energy audit report to effectively present the information to its various end users will be detailed.

The program includes the latest information on:
