Certified Energy Manager Online Training Program

*Please note, for all certification preparation training programs, an additional fee is due when submitting your certification application to take the exam.

About this Program

This Online Program is a highly condensed version of the standard Certified Energy Manager Training Program. Over five days, the instructor will review many aspects of energy management, including current strategies, best practice, and available systems. The agenda focuses on the “where to” and “how to” optimize energy use and costs within non-residential buildings.  It provides a structured “holistic” approach to help attendees see the “big picture.” These fundamentals can then be applied to optimize building systems, reduce costs, improve profits, and increase occupant satisfaction.  Most course participants leave with actionable ideas they can immediately apply in their facilities to improve profitability. The CEM Body of Knowledge can be referenced at:

Educational Credits

You earn 1.2 CEU | 12.5 PDH | 2.5 AEE Credits for completing this program

Certification Program

This training program prepares attendees to take the Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®) exam. Please review the requirements for certification here. A separate certification and application fee applies.

Attendees can select one of two options to apply for the certification and sit the CEM® exam.

  1. The attendee can choose to take the exam after an on-site CEM training program. These programs are held worldwide throughout the year. Visit the AEE website for a list of exam dates and contact AEE to register for an exam.
  2. Alternatively, the attendee can choose to schedule the exam at a remote testing center at a time of their choosing.

This fast-paced program assumes attendees have prior experience in the energy management field and have the ability to study and work problems off line. It is of particular value to Facility Managers, Energy Managers, Utility Employees, ESCO Employees, Energy Engineers, and Consultants. The course covers complex concepts in a condensed schedule and is of particular value for those wishing to review energy management principles and practices before taking the CEM certification exam.

Attendees have also included individuals with diverse business, industrial and government backgrounds, such as non-engineers, sustainability professionals, building owners, lawyers, CEOs, etc. that would like to quickly gain a broad overview of the many aspects of energy management and begin an strategic study program toward AEE's Energy Manager Certification.

Instructor Value

Only instructors with greater than 20 years experience in the industry teach this program. They present the latest practices, strategies, and theories, while leading discussions in an open, interactive environment.  In each topic covered, the instructors focus on the most “useful” and “proven” activities that are the most significant value to attendees.
