Government Focused Certified Energy Manager Training

*Please note, for all certification preparation training programs, an additional fee is due when submitting your certification application to take the exam.

About this Program

An in-person training program, held over 5 days, 32 total hours with multiple instructors

This program follows the same core materials as the Certified Energy Manager Training Program. However it also covers US government energy programs and project needs, such as how to understand energy codes, federal legislation, and government policy, and it includes a detailed overview of the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP).

The primary focus of any CEM training program focuses on “optimizing” energy use and costs within non-residential buildings. It explains how energy is purchased and then used in various energy systems throughout a building, such as HVAC, Lighting, Motors, and Boilers. This “holistic” approach helps energy professionals see the “big picture” and then learn how to optimize systems to reduce costs, improve profits, and increase occupant satisfaction. Most course participants leave with actionable ideas they can immediately apply in their facilities to improve profitability. The CEM Body of Knowledge can be referenced at:

This program is held over 5 Days.

    Certification Program

This training program prepares attendees to take the Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®)  exam. Please review the requirements for certification here. A separate certification and application fee applies.

Attendees can select one of two options to apply for the certification and sit the CEM® exam.

    1. To take the exam in conjunction with this training program. The exam is administered on the last day of the training program.
    2. Alternatively, the attendee can choose to schedule and take the exam online through remote proctoring.

The CEM program is of particular value to Facility Managers, Energy Managers, Utility Employees, ESCO Employees, and Consultants. The course covers complex concepts* but is explained so that anyone can learn and find value.  Attendees have included individuals with diverse business, industrial and government backgrounds, such as non-engineers, engineers, sustainability professionals, lawyers, etc.

      Instructor Value

This multi-day program is taught by instructors with specific experience with government focused energy management requirements. They present the latest practices, strategies, and theories, while leading discussions in an open, interactive environment.  You also spend invaluable time connecting with and learning from, other program attendees. In each topic covered, the instructors focus on the most “useful” and “proven” activities that an energy manager should pursue to improve profits.
